GLSTN changed its name to GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network) in order to more accurately reflect the importance of straight educators in shaping safe schools. Our Work GLSEN believes that every student has the right to a safe, supportive, and LGBTQ-inclusive K education.
In addition to his passions for community-based research, Dr. Kosciw is passionate about dogs, Eurovision, and Ukrainian pop music.
He has also appeared on numerous national television and radio programs as an expert on LGBT student experiences. GLSEN (pronounced “glisten”) stands for the “Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Educator Network.” GLSEN is the primary touchpoint between the LGBTQ activist agenda and K schools.

GLSEN is recognized worldwide as an innovative leader in the education, youth development and civil rights sectors fighting to end bias-based bullying, violence and discrimination in K schools and promote a culture of respect for all. We coordinate a network of 43 chapters in 30 states across the nation, to ensure that we have access to schools and districts across the country to reach every student.
He has been conducting community-based research for over 20 years, including program evaluations for non-profit service organizations and for local government. We are a national network of educators, students, and local GLSEN Chapters working to make this right a reality.
Prior to that, Ashley has held positions at Credit Lyonnais and served as a legal clerk. We conduct extensive and original research to inform our evidence-based solutions for K education. We author developmentally appropriate resources for educators to use throughout their school community.
But as well as activating supportive educators, we believe in centering and uplifting student-led movements, which have powered initiatives like the Day of Silence, Ally Week, and more.
